Alternative methods for animal experiments

New in-vitro methods to find hormone disrupting substances. And to predict drug-induced liver injury, to analyse the effect of medicinal dosage and to be able to understand more easily the effect of cytotoxic drugs. This can be achieved in some of the ten projects which have received sums of MSEK 5, 3 and 0.9 respectively from the Swedish Board of Agriculture, Formas and AstraZeneca.

Millions of animal experiments are nevertheless performed every year in the world. Alternative methods are those which refine, reduce and/or replace animal experiments, often referred to as the Three Rs – Refine, Replace and Reduce.
