SEAD – The Strategic Environmental Archaeology Database is to be a web-accessible, map based database for environmental archaeological data. By coupling together and making available measurement material from large numbers of archaeological and quaternary geological investigations, the database will enable researchers to have new insights on how ancient environments, climate and human action interact, and thus have a better basis for understanding contemporary and future events.
With the help of new information technology solutions, the project will make it possible to combine large quantities of data, ease of access and powerful visualisation of research material. SEAD is part of an extensive international cooperation which aims to build up the research infrastructure of the future.
